Non-Surgical Treatments

Skin Care Line

From an early age, we learn that having a smooth, clear complexion is an attribute of physical attractiveness. However, as we age, maintaining that healthy glow becomes more difficult. The face, being the most exposed part of the body, is vulnerable to the harsh rays of the sun. The face is also subject to acne, rashes, allergic reactions, and injuries that may leave permanent scars. A number of non-surgical “refinishing” treatments are available for individuals who want to eliminate or soften imperfections on their facial skin and achieve a clearer, fresher look. These treatments include glycolic acids, sometimes called “fruity acids,” which are natural fruit substances blended into facial preparations and are used to eliminate rough or dried surface skin. Another treatment is Retin-A®, a vitamin A-enriched cream that changes the cellular metabolism of the skin’s surface and is used to combat fine facial wrinkles and blotches from sun damage.

BOTOX® Cosmetic Injections

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a non-surgical injection that temporarily reduces or eliminates frown lines, forehead creases, crow’s feet near the eyes, and thick bands in the neck. The toxin blocks the nerve impulses, temporarily paralyzing the muscles that cause wrinkles while giving the skin a smoother, more refreshed appearance. If you find that early signs of aging are becoming apparent, or if your facial expressions are causing premature wrinkles to appear, then BOTOX® Cosmetic may be for you. BOTOX® Cosmetic is also used in the prevention or smoothing of wrinkles because it prevents you from making the facial gestures that cause wrinkles. BOTOX® Cosmetic may not remove a static wrinkle completely. It only prevents you from furrowing your brow or squinting excessively around your eye. BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected with a micro-needle into the muscles to meet your individual needs. The most requested area of treatment and complaint are the forehead and area surrounding the outer eye. One injection is made in each muscle, and it takes about 30 minutes to complete one session of injections. You will experience little pain or discomfort from the size of the needle, but you will feel at least some discomfort due to the injection. Maximum benefit is reached in one to two weeks and the effects last about three months. To arrange for a BOTOX® Cosmetic consultation, contact our practice today.

Injectable Fillers

As we age, our face begins to show the effects of gravity, sun exposure, and years of such movements of the muscles as smiling, chewing. and squinting. The underlying tissues that keep our skin looking youthful and plumped up begin to break down, causing laugh lines, smile lines, crow’s feet, or facial creases over the areas where muscle movement occurs. Dr. Yessenow can use soft-tissue fillers such as injectable collagen or fat to fill in these lines and creases, temporarily restoring a smoother, more youthful appearance. By injecting these fillers beneath the skin, Dr. Yessenow is able to plump up creased and sunken areas of the face. Injectables can also add fullness to the lips and cheeks. Injectable fillers may be used alone or in conjunction with a resurfacing procedure, such as a laser treatment or a re-contouring procedure, such as a facelift. The results of injectables are not permanent, as the body eventually metabolizes the injected material. Collagen is injected using a fine needle inserted at several points along the edge of the treatment site. Fat injections involve extracting fat cells from the patient’s abdomen, thighs, or buttocks and injecting them beneath the facial skin. Though some patients have reported results lasting a year or more, the majority of patients find that at least half of the injected fullness disappears within three to six months. Chemical Peel

Chemical peel uses a chemical solution to improve and smooth the texture of the facial skin by removing its damaged outer layers. It is helpful for those individuals with facial blemishes, wrinkles. and uneven skin pigmentation. Phenol, trichloroacetic acid (TCA) and alphahydroxy acids (AHAs) are used for this purpose. The precise formula used may be adjusted to meet each patient’s needs. Although chemical peel may be performed in conjunction with a facelift, it is not a substitute for such surgery, nor will it prevent or slow the aging process. AHAs, such as glycolic, lactic, or fruit acids are the mildest of the peel formulas and produce light peels. They smooth rough, dry skin, improve texture of sun-damage skin and aid in the control of acne. TCA can be used in many concentrations, but it is most commonly used for medium-depth peeling. It smoothes out fine surface wrinkles, removes superficial blemishes and corrects pigment problems. Phenol is the strongest of the chemical solutions and produces a deep peel. It corrects blotches caused by sun exposure, birth-control pills, and aging; smoothes out coarse wrinkles, and removes pre-cancerous growths. Laser Resurfacing

In laser skin resurfacing, a laser is used to remove areas of damaged or wrinkled skin, layer by layer. It is commonly used to minimize the appearance of fine lines, especially around the mouth and eyes. However, it is also effective in treating facial scars or areas of uneven pigmentation. Laser resurfacing may be performed on the whole face or in specific regions. Often the procedure is done in conjunction with another cosmetic operation, such as facelift or eyelid surgery. Tattoo Removal

Laser tattoo removal is the penetration and breakup of the ink particles that were implanted in your skin. Depending upon the color of the ink, the procedure uses different types of lasers or intense pulsed light therapy machines. Dr. Yessenow uses a laser or pulsed light to apply pulses lasting microseconds, sometimes accompanying it with a short burst of cooling spray or freezing agent before applying the laser bursts, to minimize pain. Laser tattoo removal takes from several months to two years, with treatments occurring roughly every four months. For additional information about tattoo removal, please contact our practice today.

Spider Vein Treatment

Spider veins can be cosmetically unsettling to some people, especially when bathing-suit season arrives. Spider veins, which are common and medically harmless, are created when the valves that control the pressure of the blood pooling in the veins weaken. This causes the small veins located just below the skin to become gorged with blood, causing the veins to widen and become visible. While spider veins can crop up anywhere, they most often appear on the legs in spider-like patterns. Dr. Yessenow can rid your legs of these pesky veins by using a laser or an intense light, which is directed to the veins, eliminating them permanently. Laser treatments feels similar to being snapped over and over with a large rubber band. To find out more about spider vein treatment, please contact our office.
